People analytics, the growing phenomenon.
Using wearable devices to monitor employees is a popular way for companies to cut down on healthcare costs. Fitbit, the Apple Watch, and other wearables track activity, stress levels, and sleep. These data points are used to predict and incentivize employee actions. It might sound a little Big Brother-like, but we might as well get comfortable with “people analytics.” It’s used in almost every industry–it makes sense that analytics is getting cozy in the workplace.
Last year insurance company USAA banned its employees from wearing Google Glass to work. The problem wasn’t the geeky look they gave their staff, but the potential privacy risk they posed on other colleagues and customers. WHY EXERCISING WITH YOUR PARTNER MAY NOT BE THE BEST IDEA

Trainers who work with couples often say they see so much bickering and competitiveness come out in the gym that they feel like pseudo-marital therapists. Kara Snyder did gymnastics, played soccer and ran track growing up. When she met her now-husband, Craig Snyder, several years ago, she was training for a half-marathon and asked him if he liked to jog. His answer: “Sure, occasionally. ” Ms. Snyder invited him to go for a run in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park that Saturday morning. Mr. Snyder was determined to impress his new girlfriend. For the first 2 miles, he matched her pace and even sprinted a bit to show off. Then he told her to go on ahead. “You need to keep up your pace for training,” he said. BRUSH OR FLOSS FIRST?

You probably guessed it: Doesn’t matter if you brush or floss first, though few studies address it directly. Here’s what the doctor says:
Based on existing evidence, flossing first isn’t necessarily better for oral health than the other way around. Still, dentists have opinions on the matter. Dr. Edmond R. Hewlett, a spokesman for the American Dental Association and a professor of restorative dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, recommends flossing first. His rationale? Get the unpleasant task out of the way to avoid the temptation to not do it. “Let’s face human nature, if you’re going to skip one, which one will you skip?” he said. Continue reading on nytimes.com…
